Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

I was pulled over for speeding and the officer claimed he could smell marijuana. I was on my way back to college, after being home for the weekend. A guy, not someone I really know, left it in my car under the seat the night I gave him a ride to a concert. I was the DD and I was unaware he put it in my car. He had just called me about 45 min. before I got pulled over and told me he forgot it was in my car! I was so nervous that I handed it over since the cop said he could smell itl...now I know that was most likely not true. Now I have to go to court for a possession charge. It was in my car, not on me. I have a PD and will submit to a drug test to clear this up. I was not detained by the officer, just given a ticket and let go. He clearly knew I had not been smoking it and driving! What are my chances of not being charged with possession?

You've already apparently been charged; whether you can be convicted on these facts would be a good question for the defense counsel who hopefully is representing you by now.
