Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia
I received a price on the phone to run a sewage pipe from the front ofmy house to the street. After the permit was pulled, he called and said the pipe runs behind my house but not to worry he would start the job on Monday. No mention of a different price. He did the job in the day and a half he had originally stated. About 4 days after he finished the job I received an email stating "I know I told you it would be 2400 to do the job, but because I had to ......It would be 3800. I went round and round with the company and they insisted I owed the full amount. The plumber also threw 3 ft. pieces of the old pipe illegally over my fence. After I called to complain they came to pick that up a month later. They are taking me to court. Am I responsible for the 3800 if I was never told it would be more until after the job was finished? They are also asking lawyer fees.

Stick with the $2400 and bring that email to court so you can present it to the judge as part of your defense.
