Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia
Who is responsible?
My car was broken into and purse and other items were stolen. Not to mention the broken window. We got the license plate. The vehicle is owned by the father of the person who did the damage. Can I take the father to civil court for restitution, since his car was involved in the crime? They can't find the son.

Re: Who is responsible?
No, the father is not responsible (either civily or criminally)merely because his car may have been used to facilitate the commission of the break into and theft of property from your vehicle. The actual perpetrator is the one who must be held responsible.
