Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia
School Dentention
My son attends a public school in York County Virginia. He's 14. One day he called home during school and told his mother that he had to stay after school for dentention. He was talking during class. When he can home he was covered with mud and was very dirty. His after school dentention was pulling weeds on the school property. My son's school clothes were ruined. Looking through the student handbook it does not describe detention as a work detail. I would have any problem if he served his detention in a study hall but I am upset that he was put to work performing manual labor for the school system. Does the school have the right to do this? If not, what are my legal options?

Re: School Dentention
I would suggest that you first check with the school
principal and get his or her answer on this issue(if you haven't already done so).
