Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

State Code Supplements

In Virginia, what exactly are ''State Code Supplements''

and how do they function in updating the law? and how would you presume these supplements might be used to update the law of enforcements, judgements and liens?

Thanks!

Re: State Code Supplements

I dont know about VA law but when you use code books in a law library there is a pocket in the back of each code book where they put a pamphlet called a supplement. The supplement contains the changes in the laws listed in that book since the book was published.

Re: State Code Supplements

In California these are also the new laws enacted during the year by the legislature. They come out in soft covered books as the legislature enacts them. Except when the enactment is done 'emergency' the new laws take effect on Jan. 1. This gives attorneys a chance to catch up on the new laws being enacted during the year. Then usually a month or so into the new year the suppliments in the back of the hard bound books are published. These are slipped into a sleave in the back cover. Then as these suppliments get too large the hard bound book is republished.
