Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia
VA sheriff trying to serve me at an old address; parent home
Will I be issued a warrant for my arrest if I can not be served in VA since I moved to MD over 1 year ago? I assume the defendant recvd my old address from my car registration at the Dept. of Motor Veh. Is it my responsibility to obtain the civil court papers? What is the statute of limitations for a civil case in VA?

If this is a civil case, you will not be arrested if they can't serve you in VA. What will likely happen is that they will serve the Secretary of the Commonwealth (or the DMV if this was a car accident), and if you are a non-resident or they made diligent efforts to find you in VA, that is deemed good service on you. Or they will just serve you in MD. By the way, you are the defendant. The person doing the suing is the plaintiff. Statutes of limitations vary fom one to 15 years, more or less, depending on the claim. But the statute is satisfied once they file the case.
