Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

I have a verbal agreement with a friend that was not on the lease, that he would pay $800/ month to help with rent as long as he lived there. Long story short, never paid full amount of rent and then just left without a word leaving him, over time, around $10,000 in debt to me. If I take him to court, will the verbal agreement hold?

Probably not due to its likely exclusion under the Virginia Statute of Frauds,

but it still may be worth your while to consult with an attorney

on this matter to determine whether there may be exceptions that might

possibly apply to your particular situation which might afford you an opportunity to prevail in your efforts to enforce this verbal agreement.
