Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

verbal agreement

My sister was widowed and did not want to live alone. She suggested that she move to Virginia from Utah and buy a home that she, myself and my husband could live together in. Before moving in, she set the terms that we did not pay anything except 1/2 of the monthly operating expences of the home. That it was not ''her'' home but ''our'' home. She is an alcoholic and my husband has multiple serious health issues and is disabled.

There is much more but no more room to write it. She has told me to ''take my shit and get out''. What can I do?

Re: verbal agreement

"Take (your) shit and get out"?

Why this woman certainly has some very disagreeable nerve, very needless to say.

Your options, unfortunately, are very

likely limited to only these three:

1. You and your husband negotiate a buyout of her interest in the property, and she moves.

2. She, conversely, agrees to buyout the interests of you and your husband

for an acceptable price, and you move.

3. You and your husband retain an attorney to file a partition suit in the local circuit court which would likely result in an order for the sale of the property(in lieu of partition)and with proportionate division of the sale proceeds among the parties. (This would be the most expensive, very likely consume the most time, and therefore probably would be the least desirable of the three options.)
