Legal Question in Immigration Law in Virginia
adjustment of status
actually I m concerned about the fact that if I will go to register my self in the INS under section 265(b) of the Act ,and my application to become a permanent resident is still in the process(pending)......what would be the consequences ? I mean do I risk any inconvenience doing this registration like getting caught or detained for a simple reason that I m a non-immigrant alien?....thank you

Re: adjustment of status
You only risk being detained if you were out of status prior to filing for adjustment of status or if you have been convicted of a crime or if you are a member of a terrorist organization. If you don't register, you could be deported and (or)charged with a crime.
