Legal Question in Immigration Law in Virginia

How can I bring my fiance to the US?

I need to know excatly what I should do to bring my fiance over to the US. He is from the Bahamas and I am from Virginia. We plan on getting married as soon as I know he will be able to work in the US legally. What do I have to do for this to take place. What is the first thing I need to file so that he will be able to work in the US. I can not afford legal advice however, I would like to know what I need to do to speed up the process. Should we get married in the US before I file his citizenship papers. What papers should I file. Is there anyone I could talk to who can tell me what I need to do. The immgration office hasn't been helpful. I can't get an appointment. What is the process for him to become a citizen through marriage. What is the best way of tackling this issue.

Re: How can I bring my fiance to the US?

In order to obtain a visa for your fiance you must file petition form I-129F with the USCIS(U.S. Customs & Immigration Services) under the Department of Homeland Security. If approved your fiance will then be able to obtain an alien fiance's visa to come to the United states. Your marriage to this person must then take place within 90 days of his entry into this country.

Once here your intended will then be able to file for a work permit by submitting form I-765 to the above-referenced agency. This may take a few months to process.

After the two of you are married you will then be able to sponsor your new spouse's application to

adjust his status to become either a permanent resident or citizen of the United States.
