Canadian marrying American K3

I am marrying my american fiance in Canada this summer. I am Canadian. I just want to solve some questions, I cannot just enter the states to live right away, correct? I must apply for a K3 visa, correct? He is going to come to school in CAN so that we can be together in the process of my application. At what point in the visa process can I enter the States to live? I realize there is now ''right'' answer for this one...but what is the average time length we are looking at. Some people say that we can get married and I can just cross the border and live with him, but my understanding is that this is not possible. I would love to hear the ''actual'' truth on all this. A K3 visa would be most appropriate, and should work fine for you if he is studying in Canada. Some Canadians come to the US as a visitor, and then decide to marry, and after marrying then complete the necessary steps to adjust their status from within the US - an immigrant visa and adjustment to permanent resident status.
