U.S. Citizen wants to bring fiance to America

My fiance lives in El Salvador. I am in Virginia. We wish to get married and live together in the U.S., with him eventually getting citizenship. What do we need to do and how long would it take? Should we get married in El Salvador first?

Re: U.S. Citizen wants to bring fiance to America

If you are not married yet, you can submit a fiancee petition on his behalf. Once it is approved and he is able to come to the USA, you must marry within 90 days. Otherwise, if you marry before, you can submit a petition for alien relative and try to apply for a K3 visa so he can come earlier while the process is still pending. You should consult further and retain an attorney so you can have a better idea regarding procedure, timelines, documents you will need, etc. to make sure there are no mistakes and to assure the process goes smoothly, as often times minor mistakes can cost precious months or even years apart. Feel free to contact me should you like to discuss further in private. Good luck!
