Legal Question in Immigration Law in Virginia

Deportation

I have a family member who currently serving time for a crime; they are not an American citizen; the question is what can I do to prevent them from being deported?

Are they any information out there that we can learn about? We sincere about finding a really good attorney that can help them stay in this country. Any information that you can email to me would truly be appreciated. If there is any way you can assist us or give us advice, please email me at [email protected]

Thank you for your time!

Re: Deportation

If your family member was convicted of a crime which carries a penal sentence of more than a year(virtually any felony), there is little that can be done to forestall his deportation, once he's been targeted for removal from the United States by the Bureau of Customs and Immigration Services.

It should be noted, however, that this current process of identifying and deporting such people can be haphazard and sporadic, and many people, apparently, manage to stay on in the country for many years after being released from serving their time. One reason for this is that there is no systematic reporting by local or state law enforcement or penal authorities of non-citizen

felons who have served their time and are then released back into the community.
