Legal Question in Immigration Law in Virginia

double marriage

As of this date,my fiancee has already a K1 (Fiancee visa). Our plan is to get married in the church in the Philippines before she come here in the US using the K1 visa. Then soon as she and I arrive in the US we will marry again in the city hall for immigration papers purposes only. What is the legal consequence of this?

Re: double marriage

It shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't dispense with the civil ceremony here in the United States for which the K-1 visa was issued.

You must have a civil ceremony in the U.S. and obtain a marriage certificate in the U.S. to file with USCIS and prove marriage here.

This is an article on my website about the K visa which is useful for you. It is www.neenalaw.com
