Legal Question in Immigration Law in Virginia

EAD for SSN

My wife is in dependant visa of mine which is F2 and I am in F1 visa but working on CPT and my company applied for I-140 and I-485 in July/Aug both are pending and we got our EAD, My question is if my wife applies for SSN showing a evidence that she is authorized to work with EAD will the EAD be counted as Used if the SSN office process the SSN with EAD ? I know EAD it kicks in if we use it for work but what if she uses it just for applying SSN ?

Your kind co-operation will be highly appreciated

Thanks

Peter

Re: EAD for SSN

No, I do not believe that merely utilyzing the EAD (Employment Authorization Document)to apply for a SSN would be counted as substantive use

and cause one to lose one's previous visa status (F-2 in the case of your wife who would then be classified as having a pending I-485 status).
