green card...or not
i am a legal american born in america and i recently married a man from Panama, my question is does he need a green card to work in the US or just a social security number? thanks

He needs a valid work permit to work in the US. He can apply the work permit if you sponsor his green card.

Congratulations on the marriage. Indeed, your spouse can work only upon obtaining an EAD (work authorization). Because of I-9 requirements of employers, he will also need a driver's license. Read more about marriage petitions on http://immigration.vatrafficlaw.com

If he has not already done so, your new spouse must apply for an Employment Authorization Document with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services ("USCIS") in order to work in the United States. If he plans on traveling, your spouse will also need to obtain an Advance Parole travel document from the USCIS while his family-based permanent residence application is pending.
