Legal Question in Immigration Law in Virginia
need legal advice
my daughter and I flew into canada and met a US citizen there, when we crossed the border into the US, we were let through without any checks, even though i had our passports exposed on the dash of the car and noted that the border guard noticed them, therefore my passport was not stamped on arrival into the usa. I have been in the country for 16 months. my daughter has been going to school here since and doing well. I have a US visitors visa good for ten years with a no work annotation. the man i am living with has been supporting me ever since, has just recently become divorced and we want to marry, we are not sure what steps we need to take next to be able to do this. can you please advise me on what we need to do and if we will encounter any problems based on the information i have given you. thank you in advance for you help in this matter.

Assuming that your prospective husband is a U.S. citizen, once you are married, he will be able to sponsor your application for citizenship by completing and submitting INS form I-130 along with your completed I-485 form to adjust your status.
