I am serving in the United states Armed Forces. I am planning a marrige to a UK born Citizen. Her parents are here on a E2-visa. She has been living in the U.S. for over 15 yrs. I would like to know Laws regarding My fiance, and her parents as becoming U.S. citizens.

Re: Marriage to non-US citizen

Once you are married, you can file a petition with the Immigration Dept. to adjust your spouse's status from that of a non-immigrant to that of an immigrant. Your wife can look apply to become a naturalized US citizen three (3) years after the petition was filed, provided that the petition was granted and that she has continued to live in the US.

Your wife will be able to petition for her parents to become immigrants to the US once your petition for her has been granted. However, she may want to check the visa waiting list before doing so, as the available visas to sponsor her parents may require a wait of many years. In that case, she would wait until she became naturalized before sponsoring her parents. I certainly would urge you both to retain an experienced immigration attorney to handle these matters for you. The time you will save in having these matters go through smoothly will make the cost well worthwhile.
