Legal Question in Immigration Law in Virginia

Sponsor am illegal alien

Can an individual vs. a company/organization legally sponsor an illegal alien? Wouldn't the individual need to hire him (which I believe is illegal) in order to sponsor?

Re: Sponsor am illegal alien

Under current immigration law, an American citizen or legal resident alien can sponsor an

immediate family member for a so-called green card. It's possible that the person sponsored could be an illegal alien but, of course, there would be no requirement that the sponsor hire the family member for any particular job.

However, this same American citizen or legal resident alien would not be able to sponsor an

illegal alien to whom he has no familial relation. This program of sponsorship by individuals is geared towards the reunufication of

families and not towards meeting the needs of individual entrepreneurs in the American labor market.

American businesses or companies, however, can apply for any number of non-immigrant HB1 type visas to bring in foreign workers to fill positions (in theory) for which they are unable to find Americans in which to employ.
