What are some specific reasons why you might be denied for a visa?

Terrorist or criminal background; loathsome disease,

previous violations of American immigration laws are a few reasons that come to mind.

Read the Foreign Affairs Manual (FAM) and you can figure out what specific reasons preclude obtaining a visa. There is a difference, however, if a person ends up in immigration proceedings. Being deportable does not necessarily make you inadmissible, and maybe a visa is available that way. Without know all the facts, it's hard to advise you.
