Legal Question in Immigration Law in Virginia
Work Permit
Hello there,
Hello there,
I currently hold an dependant A-1 visa status and am 21 years of age. I was wondering what are the chances for me to get a work permit or be allowed to work in the US?
Any help in this manner would be grateful.
Thanks for your time & help,
A.

Re: Work Permit
You must first obtain an H1B visa from a U.S. embassy or consular office located in your home country. Dependents of A-1 visa holders(diplomatic personnel)are not eligible to work during their tenure in the United States.
Re: Work Permit
Correction: It has come to my attention that certain dependent A-1 visa holders may be eligible to work in the United States if there are bilateral agreements or so-called de facto arrangements between the U.S. and the dependent A-1 visa holders' home countries whereby the latter allow similarly situated American citizens to undertake employment in the local economies of these countries.
Form I-566 must be completed by the dependent A-1 visa holder and submitted to the U.S. State Department for review and approval. The form is submitted to the State Department through the foreign consulate, embassy, mission, etc., in the United States which employs the dependent's principal A-1 visa holder.
