Legal Question in Insurance Law in Virginia

benifits change without notification

I recently found out that my employer changed my employment status from salary to hourly and changed my benifits elections without providing me any notification that these changes were being made. I found out when certian health care costs were no longer being paid for. Is this legal to make these types of changes without notifing the employee.

Thankyou for your time.

Re: benifits change without notification

In the Commonwealth of Virginia, a so-called right to work state, where the rights of employers have long been favored by the state legislature over those of employees, employers are normally not required by law to provide anything beyond the monetary compensation agreed to by the employee and have no obligation to provide medical insurance, sick and/or paid vacation leave or any of the other benefits which you may have been receiving in the past as part of your compensation package.

(The foregoing, of course, does not apply to benefits guranteed in a contract of employment or collective bargaining type of agreement.)
