Legal Question in Insurance Law in Virginia
health care deduction
My husband started a job 11/07 with the benefit of paid health insurance. This past paycheck, he had a health ins. deduction of $411.00. When he questioned payroll, he was told that he had owed past due insurance of over $4000.00 and that the employer was told to deduct this amount weekly until paid in full. He was given no notification of this, and us hurt us financially. This is a small construction company with under 100 employees. When he questioned his boss,he said he would just look into it with no definitive answer. Can they do this?

Re: health care deduction
Yes, probably they can, but it would seem reasonable for your husband to find out who told his employer to make these deductions and for what previous time periods do they supposedly cover when they allegedly were not being taken from your husband's pay.
