Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

In 2004 I was charged with a misdemeanor for shoplifting. This was subsequently expunged from my record as it was a first offence. I am now able to truthfully answer 'no' to any questions regarding criminal records on employment applications.

My question is: In the future, if I want to apply for a security clearance - will I be eligible? I can still answer 'no' to criminal offences in the job application - correct?

Thanks for your help.

I doubt that your record of the offense was expunged but you may have received

what was termed back then as an SIS (Suspended Imposition of Sentence), which if true, (and you succesfully completed your assigned probation) would allow you to truthfully claim that you have no record of a conviction

with respect to this particular petty larceny offense of 2004 and only this one.
