Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia
I accepted a job with a local grocery retail chain that I used to work for. My current employer waited until two days before I was going to start the new job and counter offered for me to stay. I called and informed the local grocery chain that I wouldnt be taking the job due to the counter offer and I apologized for it being last minute. I have a friend that works at the same store and the assistant manager of the store said that the district manager had sent an email out to never hire me or never let me be a vendor at any of the stores in the area. Is this grounds for a defamation of character or discrimination lawsuit?
1 Answer from Attorneys
No, not in my opinion since you have yet to incur any provable damages
proximately caused by this alleged defamation (not to mention the fact that
you lack credible evidence that it even actually occurred).
