Apply for SSN

I have been in USA from last 20 days on H1b visa.My employer told me not to apply for SSN until i get the project.He says that if i get SSN and if i don't have project then i will have to pay all the taxes.So without SSN ,legally it will create any problem for me?So please help me.

Sounds to me like you're being ill-advised by your H1-B employer as you would only be being paying taxes on work that you have actually performed for this employer and which has been reported to the IRS as wages for purposes of taxation.

I have no idea what this employer may referring to that in the event that you don't get the project that you "will have to pay all the taxes". Makes no sense to me and could be a red flag of sorts regarding your supposed employment with this employer.
