Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia
April 9th of this year I was laid off from my job of 6 years and was told it was for lack of work. A month later I was told the company hired another person for the same position. I am apart of the union and certified fork lift operator. This new employee is not apart of the union. I was told there was a law protecting workers from situations like this. Where I would have to be notified if they did not plan to bring me back. Is this true? Do I have a case?

Likely depends on what your collective bargaining or other agreement between your union and your employer might have to say about the issue,
and therefore you should take it up with your union representatives.
