Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

I have been asked to resign from my job and have been offered 2.5 months severance pay. I can choose to take it as a lump sum or as normal weekly paychecks. Either way, I am considered an employee and entitled to medical benefits for the entire 2.5 months.

Which option should I choose in consideration of also applying for unemployment benefits which they said they will allow me to have.

What would be the advantage of accepting the "normal weekly paychecks"

unless you hope somehow that the company might reconsider its decision to compel your resignation?

Either way, apparently, you would not be eligible to apply for unemployment benefits until you're finally terminated after 2.5 months.
