Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

I think I am being blackballed by my former employer

I am a teacher who had some philosophical differences with my superintendent and principal, and I was honest about it. My contract wasn't renewed, which was fine. I was told I'd receive a good reference, but I haven't been able to get a job since. I've been teaching 10 years and had good references before, but I truly believe I'm being blackballed by my former superintendent (who is also working as a lobbyist for a superintendent association part time). What should I do?

Secure evidence of the "blackballing"

which will require not only ingenuity on your part, but also some measure of luck. Until you have credible proof of your suspicions, there's no point in even thinking about filing a defamation case against your former superintendent and others since such cases are not easily won in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
