cash shortages

can my employer hold cash shortages from my paycheck in virginia even though i am the manager of the restaurant

Of course, they're apparently already doing it as indicated by your question, but, if you mean can they do it legally without violating state or federal labor laws, the answer is, yes, quite probably they can unless you're working under a contract of employment which would prohibit this particular practice.
