If a company lays you off and after they do so they say that you were missing receipts from your company credit card; can they take the amount of those purchases out of your last check without you being able to do anything about it?

Yes, the company can do it, but if they do, you should demand in writing
copies of the proof which they are relying on for their claims and if they
cannot produce it, then your remedy is to sue them in your local area small claims court for these amounts deducted from your last check without your permission
