Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia
Compensation/Retirement
SHORT BACKGROUND: I accompanied my spouse on a career move to Germany in 2000 and we returned in 2005. The reason for return was an in place Department of Defense rule that limits civilian employment stays overseas to 5-years. Although placed into priority placement and in a leave without pay status for one year I was never picked up for another federal job, this even though I had prior service (10+ years) and a career status. I was 55 then and 57+ now, and it appears that my age is a factor on non-placement. QUES: Is there a way that I can receive a retirement from the Federal Govt. for all my previous years of service? As separation was due to agency policy and not employee action(s), every time I discuss this with a potential employer their reaction is -if I was separated - means there was a problem or potential problem. Thank you
