I am a contractor in Afghanistan and while the job I was hired to do is being negotiated from the top on down, my employer has tasked me to do work that is not in the scope of what my job description is. If I am performing tasks asked of my by my employer, will I be covered legally and by my benefits if something bad should happen while doing these things? IE I am in an armed position and what if I was injured by performing duties unarmed?

Assuming your current status as a Contract Term Employee with the U.S. government, then you should be covered by the Federal Employees Compensation Act (FECA) and all the benefits/protections which derive therefrom.
