Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Two contracts-Two different salaries

Is it legal for an employer to offer a written contract with one salary and the employee accepts that offer, but then the employer sends the employee another contract three months later with a lower salary? What are the legal ramifications regarding switching an employee's salary without prior notification?

What do the original contract provisions state in regard to salary? If there are no provisions binding the employer to pay you x salary for x period of time, then,of course, the employer is free to present you with a new contract at any time with altered compensation provisions. You, of course, are not ogligated to agree with the new terms, but would be well advised to begin looking for a new job, if you don't.
