Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia
demotion
i was demoted because the boss just thought we didn't need my area anymore (to the tune of at least $30,000 a year. my work had been exemplory, and the money I made was simply added to someone elses pay, not back into the company. This happened because my boss said he had gotten angry with me over an issue i was asked about by his boss.

Re: demotion
If your question is, what recourse may you now have against your former employer, legally speaking, as a result of this allegedly unwarranted demotion?
The answer, unfortunately, must necessarily under these facts be: none at all---unless the issue involved you and one of the federally protected statuses, e.g. sex, race, national origin, religion, etc., at least one of which was somehow linked to your demotion, or, alternatively, you had been working under a contract of employment which protected you against this type of summary dismissal.
Re: demotion
Unless you were under a contract of employment, a union employee, subject to discrimination, or a victim of retaliation you will not have a claim against your employer.
