Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Demotion after STD Leave

I just returned to work from being on STD as I was diagnosed with cancer. After 2 weeks my boss informed me that I was being demoted from a manager's position to an individual contributor. My company does mid year reviews and I was informed at that time that I was on courses and had no issues to address. I also have weekly meetings with my direct manager who had expressed no issues as well. I've been with the Company for over 20 years and I have never received a poor performance. I am just wondering if there is any recourse that I can take as this was a complete surprise and was not aware of it.

Re: Demotion after STD Leave

No, I would surmise that you're likely without such recourse unless you've been working under the protection of a valid contract of employment which would prohibit such action on the part of your employer.
