Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

dependent verification

the groundwork..my company is trying to ensure that only authorized people recieve benefits. To establish that a person you claim is a truly a dependent, they are requiring that you submit a birth certificate AND a 1040 filing from the previous year. I do not like having to submit a 1040 to establish whether or not someone is my dependent. Do i HAVE to do this, can they legally require it.

Re: dependent verification

Sure, they can require it (if you want to stay employed with the company). A copy of the front side only of the 1040 with the dependents listed should be sufficient.
