Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia
I was a dishwasher employed at Ihop. I showed up at work one day to and my wife pulled me to the side to tell me I need to speak with the night manager wife know be cause I was fired... not only did my wife know, the whole ihop knew. So I spoke with the night man. and she said she was suppose to fire at the end of my shift but she had talked it over with the gen.man. and I could keep my job. At the end of my shift..after working 2hrs. off the clock I was told I was terminated..I waited to speak with the GM that morning...she denied firing me and said she didn't what the night shift man. was talking about...but the whole ihop heard her say it too, cause they ask me questions like why are you still here? didn't you get fired??. the GM said she would check into it and in the meantime I remained off the schedule...because of this my check wasn't enough to cover my bills and by the time things were figured out I was evicted and my wife and I are now homeless..

Assuming that as an IHOP employee you were working without
the protection of a valid contract or collective bargaining type of agreement, I regret to report that you are likely without a remedy for the
unfortunate situation you've described.
