Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia
Docking future pay
My husband gets paid salary for his IT job however after a certain amount of billable hours he is eligible for bonus hours at an hourly rate. Two of his former clients are refusing to pay their bills and because of this his employer has stated that he will not be paying my husband for 70 future bonus hours in order to recoup some of the lost income. The work my husband did for the clients was months ago and has already been paid to him by his employer. This would mean that my husband would be denied bonus hours for work that he is performing for current clients. Can his employer legally do this?

Re: Docking future pay
The answer is, yes, the employer can unless your husband is working under the protection of a contract of employment which would prohibit it.
