Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

I have a doctors note- my job is giving me a hard time.I work for a major bank in the area. I have a doctor's note that says I can't work more than 40 hrs a week. My doctor has filled out paper work staying why I can't work over 40 hrs a week. They also have pulled my medical records. My boss said that they do not have to approve the request.
