Doctors visits and employers

I have recently been diagnosed with diabetes and have several appointments to take care of this. My employers is telling me that I need to ask his permission to go to my appointments because ''he is the boss.'' DO I need to ask his permission or simply informing him that I need to go sufficient?

You need to secure your employer's permission to be away from work, whatever the reason.
