Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Employee Attacked

I was working late one night. I usually get off at 10 pm but was sent to a job telephone trouble call. After I finished the job I was returning to my work van when I was attacked and slammed against the van by 5 men. I ran away from the area and tried to call my employer on our Nextel radio, but all the dispatchers and supervisors had turned their radios off and I had no way to reach help. I was pretty shaken up and hurt and could not get help. Isnt it my companies responsibility to have someone on the radio until the last employee is in for the night?

Re: Employee Attacked

Sure, it should be your company's responsibility

to have a dispatcher available "until the last

employee is in for the night."

Are they legally required to have this coverage?

I don't think so, although they could be exposing

themselves to lawsuits if an employee like yourself is injured or worse for their failure to do so.
