Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia
Employee Severence
Is there a satute of limitations on job related loss? I signed a contract that said I would receive one months severence pay in lieu of one months notice if the project should end. I was notified via e-mail on December 14, 2007 to cease work immediatly if I had already worked 180 hrs in December, which I had. He was notified by the COTR that funding had run out, which was not the case. I was an hourly consultant working through this company at the request of my former employer, who subsequently hired me back thru another consulting firm. I am still there. As a retiree I could not be hired directly. I already talk to a lawyer who said I could win but he wanted almost half of my one month pay and charged me $375 for that advice. If I can still pursue this how do I find an attorney that would start by writing a letter?

Re: Employee Severence
If the alleged job related loss derived from an alleged breach of a written contract, the statute of
limitations in the Commonwealth would normally run five years from the date of this breach.
