Can my employer change my pay rate?

I was absent from work for a few day. I mistakenly approved my time without checking.

I got my pay stub today and it says I worked 80 hours at 13.00/hour. ALL my previous pay stud state my pay rate at 24/hr.

But my time sheet says I only worked 37 hours. They tell me to get my final pay, they take my total hours worked and divide my supposed paycheck amount to get a NEW pay rate for an standard 80 hour check.

But I was NEVER told anything.

Appears to be some kind of accounting problem. Why not take the issue back

to payroll or HR and have them explain in greater detail exactly how you

ended up being compensated at the rate of $13 per hour for the period

in question (37 hours rather than 80) when your previous pay rate was $24 per hour? (However, you might also want to bear in mind that 80 x $13 = $1040 while 37 x $24 = only $888.)
