Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia
Can employer change work schedule after verbal agreement
My employer is requiring me to work a mandatory Sunday.
I first started working a Mon-Sat schedule and was promoted to a job where I worked Mon-Fri.Recently that job was done away with and I had a verbal agreement with management by 2 different supervisors that I would be able to continue to work a Mon-Fri schedule due to prior committments.
No one has ever worked mandatory Sundays it has always been on a volunteer basis. We don't have a union and some
weeks they are asking people to work 7 days per week.
Is this a case where this is a right to work state and they can do as they please?Would I have any recourse if in the future they tried to make me work on Sundays or any other day that wasn't agreed upon.

Re: Can employer change work schedule after verbal agreement
I would not go so far as to say "that they(meaning your employer)can do as they please", but, unfortunately, in Virginia when it comes to an employer setting a work schedule for an employee who is working with no contract or collective bargaining agreement protection---- you're pretty close to the mark.
