Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Employer draft

My employer is implementing a draft requiring manditory overtime by employees. My shift is a nine hour shift and the draft would required me to work 18 hours straight. Is there a legal limit to the maximum hours an employer can make you work in a 24 hour period?

Re: Employer draft

You don't indicate the nature of your employment and whether it's public or private. The type of "draft" that you describe(whatever that is, precisely) might be permissible where the health

and/or safety of the public is at stake.

You could direct your question to the Labor and Employment Law Division(wage and hour section) of the Dept. of Labor and Industry(VDLI)for a more specific answer.
