Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

My employer falsely accused me of stealing. And told everyone at work before she knew the truth that I stole. I was only at this job for a week and there were cash handling issues before i got there. Within 24 hours of accusing me and telling me she would have me put in jail, she was calling me to come in for my shift, acting as if nothing happened. Is it against the law to do what she did to me? And if so what action should I take?

You may have a civil case for defamation against your employer if you are of a mind to pursue it.
