Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Employer slow to pay

I recently terminated my position with a government contractor in Iraq and they have effectively refused to pay me over $5000 in final pay. On the most recent pay stub I was due to be paid just under $900 but the company held the funds to ensure I returned the gear loaned to me by the military. My final day with the company was Oct. 24th. I returned all gear to the military on October 31st. The final pay date should have been Nov. 14th. There is 10 days of pay missing from the amount being held to the tune of about $2500. I also am due to be reimbursed roughly $2000 for travel expenses which I have yet to receive. I have documentation to show that I have returned all gear and have been cleared through the military, I have documentation that I am eligible for travel reimbursement, and I have forwarded everything to the company so that I can be paid. I have yet to get a straight answer from anybody when I will get paid. What are my options? The military has paid them for my services now I would like my cut.

Re: Employer slow to pay

I would suggest that you send this company a letter demanding all payment due by a date certain.

And, if no such payment occurs, then sue 'em for up to $5K in small claims court.
