Employers Termination With No Explanation

I go to work every day, on time, and even early as a tattoo artist. My best friend just committed suicide so when I was at work I did my job but wasn't upbeat and lethargic. I attended his funeral today and reported to work. When I arrived the manager advised me I was fired with no explanation whatsoever. I contacted the owner of the shop and he told me the managers decision is the managers decision. They have yet to provide me an explantion as to why i am terminated. I go to work every day, on time, staty late to help out and fill in for the other tattoo artiststs. can they do this to me for no just cause or explanation? Please help i have a mortgage, wife and a 10-year old child to take care of.e

Yes, indeed they can, and obviously do,

and with impunity and without legal repercusions with respect to employees who work without the protection of a contract in employment at will jurisdictions such as the Commonwealth of Virginia.
