Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Employment Agreement

I live in Virginia.

My question is this. I work with a government contractor who made me sign an employment agreement prior to being hired. This agreement states that after termination, voluntary or involuntary, I can not work for any agency that they work with or any other contractor that works with one of their clients. I have recently been offered a position with another contractor who happens to work with the same government agency I work with now. The opportunity is too good to pass up, but I need to know if there is a remedy or if my current employer can pursue legal action. Please help!

Re: Employment Agreement

The so-called non-compete agreement, in order to

to be upheld, must generally be reasonable in terms of what is known as scope(area to which it applies) as well as time frame(duration).

The agreement which you have described would not appear to conform with either of these criteria.
